What makes Australians different

Overseas visitors

I am sure you are interested in Australians. What makes us tick.

This has been an intersting question for me as well.

Australias code of ethics I believe was written in the late 1800s to federation and the addoption of the Australian constitution on the 1 January 1901

During that time there was a large ground swell of employment out in the bush. Shearers, sheep herders, squatters and pastoralists a multitude of people who very much had the ethic of hard doers helping each other in a harsh land.

The ethic of " Mateship" much talked about and undefined.

Australia is an agricultural country. Much of it is either farm land or station country. Most Australians are not far from a connection with an uncle or aunt that is a farmer.

We have had considerable migration since after the second world war. Many English and middle european people who have all contributed their cultures and cuisine

We once rented a house of an old italian couple. The lady had come to Australia as an 18 year old straight out to the Nullabour Plain where her husband worked on the road. She said she cried for 3 months. I don't blame her.
